Configure CompactRIO With a Static IP Address

Currently, you should see your CompactRIO system under Remote Systems and have it connected directly to your computer with a crossover cable or to a static network. If you are directly connected to your computer via Ethernet over USB, then a DHCP Only network will automatically be established and you are ready to install software on the controller.

  1. Locate and select your CompactRIO system under Remote Systems in Measurement & Automation Explorer. Click on the Network Settings tab at the bottom of the window.
  2. Enter the following IP address information and click Save. Click yes if you receive a warning and OK to reboot the controller. If your computer is already configured with a static IP address other than 10.0.0.x, select an IP address for your CompactRIO system that is on the same subnet.

    IP address: 10.0.0.2

    Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

    Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

  3. If your computer is not configured with a static IP address, set a static IP address of 10.0.0.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 as described below. If your computer is already configured with a static IP address, use the process below to retrieve the address.

If your computer requires you to connect to a specific domain to use it, consider connecting your CompactRIO system to the network rather than configuring a static IP address.

For Windows 7, take the following steps:

    1. In the Control Panel, open Network and Sharing Center.
    2. Select Local Area Connection from the list of connections.
    3. Select Properties.
    4. From the list titled This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
    5. Select Use the following IP address. If it was already selected, ensure the CompactRIO system is on the same subnet and has an IP address in the same range.
    6. Enter the following:

      IP address: 10.0.0.1

      Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

      Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

    7. Click OK and close each of the network settings windows.

For Windows XP, take the following steps:

    1. In the Windows Control Panel, open Network Connections and double-click Local Area Connection.
    2. On the General tab, click Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box is displayed.
    3. Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) dialog box is displayed.
    4. On the General tab, select Use the following IP address. If it was already selected, ensure the CompactRIO system is on the same subnet and has an IP address in the same range.
    5. Enter the following:

      IP address: 10.0.0.1

      Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

      Default gateway: 0.0.0.0

    6. Click OK and close each of the network settings windows.
  4. Once your CompactRIO system reboots and shows 10.0.0.2 as the IP address, you are ready to install software on the controller.
