The PXI-1056 chassis supports remote voltage, temperature, and fan monitoring through a RS-232 9-pin D-sub connector located on the rear panel. These metrics may be read using the command set defined in the PXI-1056 user manual.

The included example program uses serial communication to request data from the chassis, parse it and pass results to the front panel where the user is able to monitor values via sets of graphs, gauges and boolean indicators.

To use the example program, simply connect a serial cable between your chassis and a RS-232 port on your computer, specify the appropriate port in the configuration tab and run the VI.

Advanced functionality is available through the use of specific commands. Documentation of these commands is available in Chapter 2 of the NI PXI-1056 User Manual.
