As chief executive officer and a member of the NI board of directors, Alex Davern is responsible for driving NI’s vision and long-term strategic direction. With more than two decades of experience at NI, Davern has been instrumental in ensuring NI’s success as a public company. He has helped deliver strong growth and profitability while maintaining the company’s philosophy of technology innovation through consistent investment in R&D and maintaining the market-differentiated culture of the more than 7,000 global employees. Davern has also been deeply involved in expanding the company’s sales, marketing, and service offerings around the world to help ensure customer success. Davern is committed to balancing the needs of each of NI’s key stakeholders including: customers, employees, shareholders, and partners and to deliver sustained, long-term growth.
Davern is the second chief executive officer to lead the company since its founding in 1976. He began his career at NI in 1994 and has been part of the executive management team since 1997, when he was appointed chief financial officer. During his tenure in that position, he oversaw a more than 7X increase in the company’s revenue. Davern served as NI’s first chief operating officer from 2010 through 2016.
Davern has been deeply engaged in NI’s business and platform strategy for the last 15 years. While leading the sales organization from 2010 to 2013, he delivered 73 percent revenue growth and drove the expansion of NI’s geographic footprint in Asia and key developing geographies. Davern drove the operational expansion of NI’s manufacturing centers into Europe and Asia, ensuring global diversity and strategic, operational risk reduction. He also served as the executive sponsor responsible for ensuring the successful expansion of NI’s business at some of our largest customers. He has been actively involved in more than 20 of the company’s acquisitions.
Davern holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce and a postgraduate diploma in professional accounting from University College Dublin. He serves on the board of Cirrus Logic, Inc. and previously served on the boards of SigmaTel, Inc. and Helen of Troy, Inc.
