The NI Picture Quality Analysis (PQA) software provides the software required for HDMI streaming audio/video test applications. Based on PXI Express technology, the PXIe-1491 hardware acquires up to 1080p60, HDCP-encrypted content and applies a library of proven measurements in NI PQA to objectively measure picture quality.

The NI Picture Quality Analysis software offers powerful algorithms for referenced video testing during multimedia device design and validation. For higher throughput applications, NI Picture Quality Analysis offers real-time high-performance measurements to remove operator error and subjective tests. You can use the configurable interface to choose referenced or non-referenced testing, select pre-built measurements, set limits, and automate applications.

This product is not recommended for new designs.

Installation Instructions

Install the required software for NI Picture Quality Analysis (PQA) in the following order:

1. Install any application environment(s) in which you will use NI PQA:
  • LabVIEW
  • NI TestStand
2. Install NI PQA by running the self-extracting zip file. The NI PQA installer will run once the self-extracting zip file has completed. You may be prompted for other installs prior to the PQA installation, which may require a reboot.

3. (Optional) Using the NI PQA VI templates to develop custom plug-ins for NI PQA requires NI Vision Development Module 2012 or later or NI Vision Acquisition Software 2012 or later. You can find the latest versions of all required NI software on the National Instruments website at

4. (Optional) To use NI hardware with NI PQA, you will need a minimum of the drivers found on the February 2013 Device Drivers DVD. You have the option to begin this installation from within the NI PQA installer, or separately. You can find the latest versions of all required NI software on the National Instruments website at See the PQA readme for more information about the drivers and driver versions required.

After installation, to conserve disk space, you can delete the extracted files. It is recommended that you keep the self-extracting zip file in case you need to add features from the NI PQA distribution in the future.
