Transferring Files Over the Server

Last Modified: June 28, 2018

Create rules to move files on your server in File Viewer.

Users can upload and download files depending on the permissions you define for your web server. In NI SystemLink Web Application, logged in users can access and move server files in File Viewer. This procedure describes how to create rules to move files in NI SystemLink Web Application.
  1. In File Viewer, click »File Moving Rules.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select a preconfigured destination to move the file to.
  4. Specify a relative path. This a path with property placeholders that create and move the file to subdirectories specific to the each file's properties. An example relative path is <month>\<date>, representing the month and date the file was created. This relative path will create folders within the root path that correspond to the specific month and date values of the files. The following is a list of properties preconfigured to use as placeholders in relative paths.
    • Day
    • Month
    • Year
    • Name
    • Extension
In addition to these properties, you can specify a relative path using any custom property you have defined for files in File Viewer.
  5. Specify whether you want to delete the original file after it has moved a copy to the new location.

    Note

If more than one rule applies to a file, and at least one rule specifies to delete the original file, the rule waits to delete the file until any other rules are applied.

  6. Specify Rule Matching Metadata for the file moving rule. Rule Matching Metadata refers to any values you want the file service to search for to determine which files to move. If a file's metadata matches a value you specify, the file service moves that file.
  7. Click Create.
In LabVIEW, you can find the File Transfer API in the Skyline folder on the Data Communication palette. You can use the File Transfer API to register for file notifications.
