Configuring an MTU Size Greater than 1,500 Bytes

To configure a maximum transmission unit (MTU) size greater than 1,500 bytes, complete the following steps:

  1. Enable the jumbo frames option of the Ethernet interface card.
    1. Select Control Panel»Network and Sharing Center.
    2. Select the internet connection to which the device is connected.
    3. Select Properties»Configure»Advanced»Jumbo Frame.
    4. Select the maximum MTU size that the Ethernet interface card can support.
  2. Configure the system MTU setting.
    1. Run the netsh command in a Command Prompt window as an administrator.
    2. Enter >> netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces.
    3. Enter >> netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=nnn store=persistent where "Local Area Connection" is the name of the network connection on the computer, which is shown in the listing of available network interfaces and nnn is the numeric value of the maximum supported MTU size.

    Tip  

    Include quotation marks around "Local Area Connection" to allow blank spaces in connection name.

  3. Restart the computer and the device.
  4. Open Command Prompt and enter >> netsh int ip show int to verify that the MTU setting saved successfully.
