Configure Pulse Current Level Range (G Dataflow)

Configures a range defining valid values that pulse current level and pulse bias current level can be set to for the specified channel(s).

The pulse current level range setting is applicable only if the output function of the channel is set to Pulse Current.

Channel Name Syntax

You can input the channel name with the following options:
  • A single channel, such a 0
  • A list of channels, such as 0,1 or 3,2,1,0.
  • A range of channels, such as 0-7 or 0:7.

The order of channels in a list is important. NI-DCPower performs configurations of multiple output channels in the order the channels occur in the list.

Standard Error Behavior

Many nodes provide an error in input and an error out output so that the node can respond to and communicate errors that occur while code is running. The value of error in specifies whether an error occurred before the node runs. Most nodes respond to values of error in in a standard, predictable way.

Setting the Output Function of the Channel

Use the Configure Output Function node to set the output function of the channel. The pulse current level range configured with the Configure Pulse Current Level Range node is applicable only if the channel is set to the Pulse Current output function.

Setting Pulse Current Level and Pulse Bias Current Level

Use the Configure Pulse Current Level node and the Configure Pulse Bias Current Level node to set pulse current level and pulse bias current level respectively.

Range Considerations

Selecting a range sets the resolution and the magnitude of the power supply or SMU output or measurement. A smaller range provides higher resolution and lower magnitude. A larger range provides lower resolution and higher magnitude.

Changing Ranges

When you configure an output range, if you request a range that differs from the ranges described in the device specifications, NI-DCPower selects the smallest range (highest resolution) available that accommodates the requested range. For example, on a device with only 20 mA and 200 mA current limit ranges, if you request 100 mA for the current range, NI-DCPower selects the 200 mA range.

To change the range, the configured range must be able to accommodate the configured output value. For example, if the current limit range is 1 A and the current limit is 50 mA, changing the current limit range to 20 mA is not allowed because 50 mA is not possible in the new range.

When changing ranges in the Running state, be aware of the order of the output range and output value changes because the configuration change takes effect immediately in this state. To avoid ordering issues, NI recommends that you configure the output range and output value in the Uncommitted state and then transition to the Running state. Alternatively, you can enable autoranging for the range you want to change.
