# Cross Product (G Dataflow)

Version:

Calculates the cross product of two vectors.

## a

First vector. This input must contain three elements that specify the x-, y-, and z-coordinates of the vector.

## b

Second vector. This input must contain three elements that specify the x-, y-, and z-coordinates of the vector.

## error in

Error conditions that occur before this node runs.

The node responds to this input according to standard error behavior.

Standard Error Behavior

Many nodes provide an error in input and an error out output so that the node can respond to and communicate errors that occur while code is running. The value of error in specifies whether an error occurred before the node runs. Most nodes respond to values of error in in a standard, predictable way.

error in does not contain an error error in contains an error
If no error occurred before the node runs, the node begins execution normally.

If no error occurs while the node runs, it returns no error. If an error does occur while the node runs, it returns that error information as error out.

If an error occurred before the node runs, the node does not execute. Instead, it returns the error in value as error out.

Default: No error

## cross product

Cross product of a and b. This output contains three elements that correspond to the x-, y-, and z-coordinates of the cross product vector.

How to Determine the Cross Product of Two Vectors

The cross product of two vectors means a vector that is perpendicular to both vectors.

The following figure shows vector a, vector b, and the cross product of a x b:

## error out

Error information.

The node produces this output according to standard error behavior.

## Algorithm for Calculating the Cross Product

This node uses the following equation to calculate the cross product of a x b:

$a×b=|\begin{array}{ccc}\stackrel{^}{x}& \stackrel{^}{y}& \stackrel{^}{z}\\ {a}_{x}& {a}_{y}& {a}_{z}\\ {b}_{x}& {b}_{y}& {b}_{z}\end{array}|$

where

• ax, ay, and az are the x-, y-, and z-coordinates of vector a
• bx, by, and bz are the x-, y-, and z-coordinates of vector b
• $\stackrel{^}{x}$, $\stackrel{^}{y}$, and $\stackrel{^}{z}$ are the unit vectors in Euclidean space
