Optimized FPGA VIs and Resource Utilization on the FPGA

Last Modified: January 2, 2018

FPGA resources are limited, so you must be deliberate in ensuring your Optimized FPGA VI fits on the FPGA. When you finish creating an Optimized FPGA VI, estimate the FPGA resources the VI requires so you know if the VI fits as it is, or if you need to make adjustments to the code.

When you estimate FPGA resources, the Algorithm Estimates tab also reports the latency and initiation interval your VI can achieve given a specific clock rate and throughput. These metrics help you understand how your VI will perform on the FPGA.

A significant benefit of using an Optimized FPGA VI is that estimating FPGA resources it will use does not require compilation, thereby saving you time in your design process.
