Capturing Data

Last Modified: December 5, 2016

You can view and analyze the data from a device or code in a variety of ways.

The following image highlights the parts of the editor you use to capture and store data.

  1. Data source—Displays data generated by a device or code. Any time you see data on the panel, you can capture the data and save it to use later.
  2. Capture Data button—Captures the data displayed on each data source on the panel. The Capture Data button saves each data source as a data item in the Captured Data tab. To capture data from a single data source, right-click the data source and select Capture.
  3. Captured Data tab—Contains all the data you captured from data sources in this project.
  4. Data item—A piece of data that originated from a single data source at a single time.

You can use data items in the following ways:

  • View saved data—Double-click the data item to view it in the workspace.
  • Copy saved data onto the panel—Drag a data item from the Captured Data tab onto the panel.
  • Copy saved data into a specific control—Drag a data item from the Captured Data tab onto a control or indicator that can display the same data type.
  • Export saved data—Select a data item and export to a CSV or TDMS file from the Captured Data tab to view data using other applications or to send data to other users.
