How to Join the IDDP
Joining the Instrument Driver Developer Program is easy. To qualify for inclusion in the program, you must create an instrument driver for your instrument, submit it for review to National Instruments (NI), and then provide your instrument driver for download to your customers. NI will then formally recognize your company as a participating member of the IDDP and will certify your instrument driver if it is maintained on the instrument driver network.
Qualifications
Instrument vendors and other developers can qualify for membership in the Instrument Driver Developer Program by creating one of the following:
- LabVIEW Plug and Play instrument driver
- LabWindows/CVI Plug and Play instrument driver with LabVIEW wrappers
- LabWindows/CVI IVI instrument driver with LabVIEW wrappers
National Instruments recommends creating a LabVIEW Plug and Play instrument driver to reach the largest number of instrument control and automation customers. However, if you decide to create a LabWindows/CVI or IVI instrument driver, you should provide LabVIEW wrappers to ensure your customers can easily use your instrument driver in LabVIEW. To join the IDDP, you must create LabVIEW wrappers for LabWindows/CVI and IVI instrument drivers.
Steps to Joining the IDDP
- Contact the National Instruments IDDP team to begin the process. You will also need to fill out an online application after contacting the National Instruments IDDP team.
- You create a LabVIEW instrument driver or LabVIEW wrappers for your LabWindows/CVI or IVI instrument driver.

- A National Instruments engineer will review your instrument driver and provide feedback to your developer.
