In this role, he led the introduction of an entire line of new products and technologies that incorporated the IEEE 488.2 standard protocol for programmable instrumentation. In 1991, Dehne became manager of strategic marketing and worked in the following three years to establish a centralized marketing model, with local operations in the company's new international branch offices. Dehne was promoted to vice president of strategic marketing in 1994 and then to vice president of marketing in 1995, where he was responsible for worldwide marketing initiatives. As vice president of marketing, Dehne combined strategic marketing and marketing communications operations and oversaw the introduction of several of the most successful NI products, including LabVIEW graphical development software for the PC and E Series data acquisition devices, which are de facto industry standards today. In 1998, Dehne took on a new role of leading the National Instruments R&D organization as vice president of engineering. He again played a key role in the global expansion of the company, this time leading efforts to open R&D centers in Germany, China, and India. Under his direction, NI R&D has developed and adopted global strategies, processes, and metrics for successfully innovating quality products that lead to worldwide customer success. As part of the company's strategic investment in R&D, Dehne continued to grow the R&D department through the 2001 economic downturn, helping the company gain market share by releasing a record number of new products. In his current role, Dehne continues to be instrumental in shaping NI into an industry leader and innovator in measurement and automation and positioning the company for future growth. Dehne is recognized throughout the industry for his insight regarding measurement and automation industry trends and R&D management. He has given keynote speeches at several industry events, has authored and served as a source for articles in numerous engineering magazines, and serves on the editorial advisory board for R&D Magazine. Dehne earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1987 from Rice University, where he also was a member of the Rice University baseball team. In 2005, the university honored him with the Outstanding Young Engineering Alumnus Award.
