Jon Bellin

Vice President of R&D, Application and System Software

As vice president of R&D for application and system software at National Instruments, Jon Bellin is responsible for global application and system software development. Since joining NI in 1986, Bellin has played a critical leadership role in developing NI software.

A year after starting at NI as a software engineer in the GPIB group, Bellin joined the team that created NI LabWindows™. He went on to manage the group in 1989 and started the LabWindows/CVI team, which he led for more than seven years, in 1991. In 1996, Bellin formed the NI TestStand and IVI groups. He further expanded his role in 1998 when he became director of software engineering, adding NI LabVIEW, ComponentWorks, and instrument driver software development to his focal areas.

In 2001, Bellin was promoted to director of R&D for application and system software, leading software development efforts for the NI-DAQmx API and the software installer architecture that is now used in all NI products. In addition to these responsibilities, Bellin oversees the NI Circuit Design Suite and NI DIAdem products. He manages developers for his product groups across the globe in China, India, Germany, Romania, the United States, and Canada. He has also helped establish the high technical bar for recruiting software engineers, led the development of the software engineering process portion of new product development, and coinvented nine patents.

Bellin was promoted to his current role as a vice president in 2007. He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley, and his master's degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining NI, Bellin spent 10 years working with the Internal Revenue Service.
