Pipe Flow
University: University of California, Santa Barbara To determine whether a given device is a useful flowmeter, one must determine if a simple, reliable, monotonic relation exists between the flow magnitude and the device output. In this experiment, students calibrate and contrast an orifice-plate meter that measures flow rate from pressure drop and a paddlewheel flowmeter that measures flow rate from mechanical motion induced by the flow. Students calibrate a pressure transducer for use with the orifice plate. Finally, they investigate hydrodynamic loss in pipe flow. |
